SiPN/FLAD Partial Scholarships

The Luso American Development Foundation (FLAD) is a private Portuguese non-profit foundation. FLAD is the “motor” behind SiPN.

This means that our programs are created with a true non-profit spirit in mind, and this is why our program fees are so much lower than competing programs in Western Europe. Besides our strategic grant partnerships with the U.S. Fulbright Program and other non-profits that promote international exchange, FLAD has committed itself to use any positive revenues generated from this program by adding more merit-based student scholarships. This means that as our program grows in terms of recruitment, more and more scholarships will become available to our applicants.

FLAD has committed €10,000 in partial scholarships for each academic year.

The deadline for Summer and Fall SiPN/FLAD scholarship applications is April 15; for Spring editions it is October 15.

These scholarships will be awarded based on financial need and academic merit criteria.

These are the documents that you need to turn in to be eligible for the scholarship:

1. SiPN/FLAD Scholarship Application Form

2. Proof of Financial need – SiPN accepts 2 ways to prove financial need:

·      A simple letter from your University, Financial Aid Office, OR you can also use SiPN’s “Proof of Aid Verification Form”(PAVF) that would work not only for the scholarships application but also to inform SiPN about the aid that you will be receiving so our billing office has that in consideration when billing you. The PAVF is part of our application packet.

·      – If you are not a Financial Aid student, you can simply write/justify your (difficult) financial situation so our committee can decide based on that personal statement. (There is a specific open box for you write your reasons on the application form itself, if we see that you wrote in there we won’t be expecting documentation mentioned in 1)/Financial Aid.

3.Your student transcript (that is required during the general application process)

4.Faculty Recommendation Letter

Fulbright Grant for SiPN Alums

Starting in 2016, SiPN alumni will enjoy priority access to a second Fulbright grant to Portugal, which will be funded entirely by the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD). FLAD presently co-funds one of the Fulbright – Luso-American Foundation Study/Research Grants to Portugal. These 8-month student grants to Portugal are open to US citizens with at least a Bachelor’s degree and who are pursuing masters or PhD level research.

Applicants who are SiPN alumni and whose candidacy passes through the initial selection process conducted by the International Institute for Education will enjoy priority access to the pool for this second Fulbright, dramatically increasing your chances of being selected for a Fulbright.
